The Age of Adolescence – Illustration by Giovanni Alberti exploring the emotional upheaval of adolescence. Selected for the 2022 Tapirulan Illustration Contest

L’ETÀ DELL’ADOLESCENZA

THE AGE OF ADOLESCENCE

During adolescence everything changes and shakes. It’s a continuous reversal of emotions that sends you into a tailspin. Growing up is this, turning the world upside down almost as a game, looking for the impossible.

This illustration was selected for the 2022 edition of the Tapirulan Illustration Contest in Italy, under the theme TILT.

IN TRIESTE #2

In this series, some illustrations originally made for In Trieste Magazine have been partially modified, removing the masks that hid the faces in the original series. The original series had been made during the pandemic days. I decided to modify some scenes, removing the masks, to show how the everyday life of certain moments has remained unchanged over time.

IN TRIESTE MAGAZINE

Illustrations for  In Trieste Magazine, mostly inspired by the daily life of the city of Trieste during the pandemic period. Many of the situations depicted are the same as they have always been in this city — the main difference being the ubiquitous presence of face masks.

The titles of these illustrations often refer to dialect words typical of this beautiful border town. The illustration In the World of Books was selected to appear in the prestigious 40th Annual Book of American Illustration.

AMHERST MAGAZINE

COVID JOURNAL

During the lockdown I started a collaboration with the New York based artist Peggy Roalf.

Together we have created a “creative dialogue” based on the visual and emotional suggestions that emerged in those difficult days.

The project is called Covid Journal and the illustrations make up a virtual gallery on IG under the hashtag #alberti_roalf_covidjournal.

Portrait series by Giovanni Alberti titled BAR TYPES, featuring elderly strangers in cafés, using minimal color palette to express quiet, everyday moments.

BAR TYPES

A collection of portraits of mostly elderly strangers captured in their everyday routines, particularly during quiet, relaxed moments in cafés.
The series uses a minimal, essential color palette to highlight the contrast between the visible traces of time on the subjects’ faces and the flat, reddish backdrop that “hides” the outside world.
